Chromium
Chromium is an important trace element in the glucose metabolism. It
strongly enhances the effect of insulin and therefore increases the
ability of body cells to take up glucose. An adequate supply of
chromium is therefore essential to ensure that the cells of the body
are supplied with glucose. An adequate supply of chromium may also
contribute to keeping the cholesterol and triglyceride values of the
blood at a normal level, as all insulin-dependent metabolic processes
in the body depend on the chromium available.
Good sources of chromium are, for example, meat, innards, eggs, many grain types, many edible mushrooms, lentils or brown rice, but also beer and beer yeast. A daily dose of 20 μg can already prevent a chromium deficiency. Healthy nutrition provides the body with approx. 30 to 100 μg chromium per day. If chromium supplements are required, the daily doses of up to 300 μg may be used.
